Product information "German Bollock Dagger with Leather Sheath, 15th c."
German Bollock with Leather Sheath, 15th century
This beautiful late medieval dagger is based on an original early 15th c. piece from Germany. This particular type of dagger, known as bollock dagger, ballock dagger or kidney dagger, owes its quite peculiar name to the characteristic shape of its hilt that terminates at the guard with two distinctive spherical / egg-shapes lobes or bulges.
This reproduction features a single-edged, unsharpened steel blade that tapers evenly from the guard to an acute point. The octagonal grip is carved from one single piece of wood and the flat steel pommel is adorned with a decorative brass plate.
The dagger comes complete with a vegetable tanned, hand-dyed leather sheath equipped with a brass chape and a belt loop.
This dagger is designed as a collector’s or decoration/display piece.
Details:
- Blade material: steel (not stainless), blunt edge, sharp tip
- Handle material: wooden grip, steel guard and pommel, brass pommel cap
- Overall length: approx. 46 cm
- Blade length: approx. 31.5 cm
- Weight: approx. 500 g (approx. 600 g with sheath)
- Vegetable tanned leather sheath with brass chape and belt loop
Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.
The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain the blade on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.
As wood is a natural products, variations in colour and grain are quite normal. Each dagger has thus its own very unique handle and above pictures are for reference only.
